I’m glad that the word “link” is in the title of this post or else that could have taken this otherwise quite professional blog into the depths of the gutter…
So what exactly is Link Bait or Link Baiting?
The WikiPedia describes Link Bait as:
any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites
Rand from SEOmoz gives some examples of Link Baiting that they did in his post “Talking about LinkBait” and Matt Cutts from Google even gives Link Baiting two thumbs-up.
So what makes Link Baiting such a good technique?
Gaining links to your site is currently the most effective way to improve your search ranking. Contacting other sites requesting links, submitting articles, participating in industry specific blogs and forums, submitting to directories and possibly even buying the odd link (as long as it is relevant and the purchase is designed to improve exposure to your site and not just for SEO purposes) are all good ways of building links but they all have one thing in common - they all require a lot of time and effort (and in some cases can also be costly).
So how can you gain hundreds of links without spending countless hours and buckets of money? Link Baiting! In reality, it requires nothing more than writing something interesting/controversial, building a useful tool, writing an e-book or coming-up with something that is highly beneficial to your clients.

So now that you understand the concept of Link Baiting and how it works - I’d like to ask Graywolf, a master of baiting links (most recently with his Blank Blog Post) to offer some of his own Link Baiting advice…
