An article I read recently quoted that 8 out of 10 Americans knew what a blog was and even though it’s often said that Australia is a couple of years behind the U.S. (as far as Internet trends go), I believe that the figures would be reasonably close over here too.
So why aren’t you blogging yet?
Most people or companies who don’t have a blog believe that: it’s too difficult… that they don’t have the time… they won’t have anything to write about… who’s going to be bothered reading it… etc. etc.
These are all valid concerns, but they all disappear the moment you start writing. Almost every person I’ve encouraged to start a blog has come back to me saying how much they enjoy it and how easy it really is.
Blogs are also a great tool for businesses because conventional marketing methods such as advertising, telemarketing, spamming etc. are all becoming less and less effective. If done well, a blog can become a very powerful marketing tool for any business as it allows you to connect with your clients on a personal level and most importantly in an unobtrusive way.
Blogging is all about relationships
Another aspect that most people don’t initially realise is that blogging is very-much about relationships. When you start to openly communicate your thoughts, ideas and opinions about various topics other bloggers will notice and often link with you. One article states - Blogging is electronic networking on steroids.
SEO Benefits
As you write more and your blog grows you’ll discover that more people (and potential clients) will find you through long-tail searches and over time you may even become respected by other bloggers as an authoritative figure within your industry.
It can also be a great way of attracting links to your website that you normally would never have received if your site was purely about your products and services. People link to things that are topical and interest them and by nature, bloggers are very supportive of other bloggers and show this by exchanging links.
So what are you waiting for?
There are various other benefits of having a blog but really the most important thing is to simply take the first step and get started. I’m happy to offer any advice or answer any questions you might have, but I’d also recommend having a look at a few of these sites:
