As always, there’s been a fair bit happening in the search industry lately and lots of good posts to recap.
I’ll start with some good stuff from SEOmoz:
- Advanced Web 2.0 at the Shop.org Summit - some good stats from Rebecca
- QR Codes And Physical Hyperlinking, No More Typing And No More Search Engines? - Thanks Shor… this was one of my favourite reads for the week!
- An Open Challenge: Applying Jim Collins’ Good to Great - Asking the Tough Questions
- Original Link Building for Beautiful-Looking Websites
On the topic of link building, you should also have a read of Help! I’m New, I Need Links, What Can I Do? and Aaron Walls post on Fresh Link Building Tips: New Search Filters = Easy Link Research.
It appears a Yahoo September Update is Underway causing temporary searching issues. These changes were also noticed by Aaron Wall - Major Yahoo! Ranking Changes.
And since we’re mentioning Aaron Wall and SEOBook… his insights on Why Google Hand Editing Seems Random are quite good and what’s even better is Everything Aaron Knows About Online Marketing, on One Page.
Marketing Pilgrim continue their study on Eyetracking on Google Universal SERPs
Search Engine Roundtable discuss how Google Analytics Limits You to 50 Accounts and Ranking for Google Image Searches.
Bill Slawski writes An Expansion of Importance Scores for Web Page Rankings? on his own blog as well as contributing an article on Should a Small Business Blog? at Search Engine Land.
If you run a small business and liked Bill’s article above, you’ll love everything Matt says at Small Business SEM. He’s put together a good post on Business Cards: Form over Function?

Google have been taking their time with the latest toolbar PR updates and Matt Cutts has said on a few forums not to expect any updates in the next few weeks. This has caused some concerns about whether Google are going to stop reporting PR altogether. Darren Rowse and I agree that you should Forget About Page Rank and Build a Better Blog.
There has also been some recent discussions about whether or not it is possible to automate the SEO process. Hamlet Batista provides A detailed look at what can (and can’t) be automated in SEO.
Jill Whalen writes a good post on Search Engine Land about Avoiding Clueless-Is As Clueless-Does SEO… and last, but certainly not least - Google has it’s 9th Birthday!
